StrategyTools Implementation Manual

The manual provides an overview of the StrategyTools Support System with information and guidelines to assist with implementation. It contains suggestions for implementing StrategyTools across multiple settings, samples of lesson plans, samples of assessment measures for determining tool-use outcomes, ideas for facilitating transition planning, and quick view references. The cost of the manual is $25 (see Order Copies).

Chapter 1: Introduction to the StrategyTools Support System

This chapter provides an overall description of the StrategyTools Support System, its rationale, and benefits for students and teachers/facilitators. Screenshots of the programs in this system are included: StrategyTools, StrategyTools Resources, Records Viewer, and the technical document called “ReadMe.”

Chapter 2: Three-tier Model of Tool Usage

The purpose of this chapter is to describe the Three-tier Model used in Response to Intervention (RTI) and demonstrate how StrategyTools can be effectively and efficiently used at all levels, including the use of team approaches.

Chapter 3: Assessment and Evaluation Process

This chapter provides information on and examples of how assessment and evaluation can be used in each phase of the StrategyTools instructional process and for each type of StrategyTools implementation.

Chapter 4: Facilitating Transition

This chapter describes how to facilitate successful transition programming using the Moving into the Future tools. These tools help students determine goals for the future, think about resources that will be needed, plan for transition meetings, and promote movement from school to adult life. Practical suggestions are provided on how to infuse the tools within transition program efforts.

Chapter 5: Implementing StrategyTools in Your Classroom

The purpose of this chapter is to provide you with ideas and suggestions of how StrategyTools can be used in a variety of settings. The chapter is divided into four sections. The first contains sample lesson plans: social studies, English, science, and mathematics. The second provides sample progress monitoring measures. The third presents information on implementation in three different secondary settings. The fourth concludes with information on how classrooms can access the technology needed.

Chapter 6: Implementing StrategyTools Schoolwide

This chapter presents a four-phase process for how to plan for initial and ongoing implementation of StrategyTools for individual and school-wide use. The four phases are: (a) Setting the Stage, (b) Exploration and Training of StrategyTools, (c) Teaching StrategyTools to Students, and (d) Ongoing Assessment. Guiding recommendations are provided for each phase and suggested materials for training are identified.

Appendices

The Appendices contain a summary of research studies undertaken with StrategyTools and their findings and references for electronic support systems.

Small-size images of all 54 tools are included to provide a quick view of the tools.

Small-size images of the evaluation rubrics used for the 54 basic tools are included to provide a quick reference to these rubrics.

Materials for use in staff development or communicating with parents are provided: an information brochure and the StrategyTools User Guide. Hand-outs from two PowerPoint presentations are included in the Appendix. One PowerPoint provides an overview of the StrategyTools Support System; the second explains steps for teaching the strategies and software.

Finally, technical contact and resource information are provided.
