Large example image of the STAR Card card.
Purpose
Use the STAR Card to take control of a problem behavior by stopping and thinking before acting, and then planning a better way to act and good results.
Tips
» STAR is a good strategy to get control of an impulse or a problem behavior that happens a lot to you. Often there is a trigger to your reaction.
» The STOP step is important to get control of yourself to break an impulsive reaction to a trigger.
» The THINK step gives you words or thoughts to say to yourself to keep yourself under control.
» The ACT step is a plan of what you want to do so that you stop the impulsive reaction and avoid the problem behavior.
» The RESULTS step helps you realize good outcomes by following your new ACT plan.
» Print out your STAR Card and use it to track of when you use your STAR plan. If your plan is working, keep it up! If your plan is not working, make a new STAR plan.
